The Conservation Study for Newlands Village which was commissioned by Cllr. Ian Iversen, and prepared by heritage consultant Nicolas Baumann with Tamara Crew-Brown and was was accepted by PEPCO on 7 April 2009. It was the first part of the process for obtaining formal conservation status for buildings within the boundaries of Newlands Avenue, Governors Lane, Paterson St, the Liesbeeck River and north of Palmboom Rd. The Baumann study remains on the website and includes recommended gradings for individual properties.

The City of Cape Towns Environment and Heritage Department has prepared a draft HPOZ for certain areas’ of Newlands including Newlands Village for public participation. The draft is awaiting release by the Mayor of Cape Town for this purpose.
