The campaign to raise funds for the Newlands License Plate Recognition cameras was launched on 5 December 2018 and, while fundraising continues for upgrades and expansion, the intial target of R310,000 was reached in May 2019.
It was a fantastic effort by both the residents and businesses of Newlands.
The original information leaflet below explains what was planned and why. We are no longer fund raising for this project.
Right now, there are twelve cameras up and running, ‘guarding’ the traffic entrances to our neighbourhood. These cameras are integrated with those of our neighbours in Fernwood, Claremont and Rondebosch, and a broader network of nearly 1,000 across Cape Town.
